Liz Lister

Liz worked for six years as a secondary science teacher and Head of Year in schools in Sussex, Manchester and Bristol. Her passion is innovation and creativity – using fresh ideas to get people to think about science in new and unexpected ways.

To pursue this passion Liz left classroom teaching in 2009 to complete her MSc Science Communication at the University of the West of England where her dissertation was a gap analysis of STEM provision in the UK using the STEM Directories.

Following her MSc, Liz worked at the British Science Association on the After-School Science & Engineering Clubs programme, which became the STEM Clubs Network. She built a team of STEM Clubs Advisors based at Science Learning Centres around the country, line managing them and the partnerships required to sustain the team. Liz and her team increased the level of participation in STEM clubs by building links between schools and STEM programmes and providing localised in-person support for club leaders.

In 2012 Liz moved to Graphic Science to oversee the company’s two STEMNET contracts. As part of this, she managed the UK-wide extension training programme for STEM Ambassadors that Graphic Science delivered on behalf of STEMNET in 2013. Implementing the spirit as well as the substance of the STEMNET contracts is Liz’s prime concern, seeking innovative and creative ways to engage young people in conversations with scientists and engineers.

Liz has a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Manchester, a PGCE from the University of Sussex and an MSc in Science Communication from the University of the West of England.
