Qualifications: A levels in Drama, English Literature, Psychology and ICT. BSc Psychology, MSc in Neuropsychology

STEM activities: Winner of ‘I’m a Scientist’ online forum;
Neuroscience debate workshops at St Bernadette’s & Writhlington

Company: Cheltenham General Hospital

Job: Specialist Practioner in Cellular Pathology

STEM activities: School visits to support the curriculum and can also offer tours of his lab for Post 16 students.

Company: Oxford Instruments

Job: Technology Development Engineer

Qualifications: A levels in Mathematics, Physics & Geography. MSc in Maths & Physics and PhD in Surface Physics

STEM activities: Workshop exploring pressure through hands-on experiments relating to the innovative Science & Technology research tools made by Oxford Instruments

Company: Renishaw

Job: Process Engineer/Project Manager

STEM activities: Talks, activities and presentations in schools including Renishaw’s Technology Teardown days. Also judging STEM clubs projects; encouragingQualifications: Engineering Apprenticeship; BEng in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

Apprenticeships and getting girls into Engineering.

Company: Black and Veatch

Job: Civil Engineer

Qualifications: A levels in Maths, Chemistry & Geography. MEng degree in Environmental Engineering.

STEM activities: Speaking to students at female STEM lunches at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College and
Patchway Community College.

Job: Postgraduate Researcher in Engineering/MathematicsCompany: University of Bristol

Qualifications: A levels in Chemistry, Biology, Psychology & History. MSc degree in Chemistry.

STEM activities: KS4 workshop on the ‘maths of social networking sites’ (at St Katherine’s School), also now
developing a ‘maths of biological systems’ workshop.

Job: Education Officer

Qualifications: A levels in Biology, English Literature, PE & Art. BSc (Hons) degree in Biological Science.

STEM activities: Creating education resources for the ARKive website and running STEM workshops with schools on topics including conservation, adaptation and evolution.

Company: GE Oil & Gas

Job: Hydro-Mechanical Engineer

Qualifications: A levels in Physics, Maths & Business studies. MEng degree in Aerospace Engineering.

STEM activities: Maths and physics problem solving activity (e.g. how many tennis balls are in a light year??)

Job: PhD Researcher in Chemistry

Qualifications: A levels in Chemistry, History, Business & Economics. MSc degree in Chemistry.

STEM activities: ‘Spectroscopy in a suitcase’ and other chemistry practical activities with students at Hayesfield School and St Mark’s CoE Secondary School.

Company: Ministry of Defence

Job: Operational Analyst (previously on the MoD Graduate Scheme)

Qualifications:   A levels in Maths, Further Maths, English Language & Product Design
BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics            

What you like about your job: It’s interesting, challenging
and I get to use my mathematical skills. I find having a
background in a STEM subject gains me the respect of fellow
peers and higher professionals.

STEM activities: Maths workshop where students have to consider
variables involved in designing military aircraft and work in groups to calculate parameters.

 

 Name: Kate King

Company: Severn Trent Water

Job: Education Coordinator

Qualifications:   A levels in English, History & Art. BA (Hons) degree in English Literature and Language.  

STEM activities: Talks and workshops in school on sewage treatment and water conservation.

Job: Plant Commisioning and Operations Lead

Qualifications:  A levels in Chemistry, Physics & Biology. BSc degree in Chemistry.

STEM activities: Careers events and developing an interactive energy event for Gloucestershire schools.
