STEM Advisory Service for Schools
We (Graphic Science Ltd) are the 2011-2015 STEMNET contract holder for two regions; Bristol, Bath and Somerset and Gloucestershire. As part of this we provide a STEM Advisory Service to secondary schools which gives advice and guidance on the wide range of STEM Enhancement and Enrichment (E&E) activities available to schools.
STEM E&E is invaluable for inspiring young people in STEM subjects (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). There are many different modes of STEM E&E available.
Types of STEM E&E might include:
- Visits to museums and science centres or other places of interest with STEM-related education programmes.
- Numerous activities and workshops that can take place in school.
- STEM Ambassadors from local businesses and universities who can provide career talks, interactive workshops or get involved with other activities such as after school clubs.
- After school or lunchtime STEM Club
- National competitions like the STEM Challenges or CREST and events like the Big Bang or National Science and Engineering Week
Are you a science, technology, engineering or mathematics teacher who is confused by the array of STEM E&E schemes available? Not sure which will benefit your students most? We have a responsibility to provide all secondary state schools and academies in our regions with impartial advice and guidance on a wide range of STEM E&E activities, helping them to identify which opportunities can best inspire their young people in STEM.
What service can we provide to schools?
- We can come out and visit your school to find out what your future needs might be and how you can work to integrate STEM enhancement and enrichment activity into your school life.
- If you would like to get an event or project going in your school, or would like to know what’s out there to engage and inspire particular groups of pupils with STEM, we can give you free advice and guidance.
- We can provide access to our wide range of STEM Ambassadors and explain what they can offer.
- We can help you set up an after school STEM Club or organise activities as part of NSEW.
- We hold networking events where teachers can meet ambassadors, E&E providers and other teachers to find out what is on offer and share experiences.
- We can provide advice on sources of funding and help you put an application together.
- Each term we send our newsletters featuring up to date information on what E&E opportunities are available. The latest newsletters are available from the links on the right.
