evaluation and research education unlimited

Evaluation of an escalator of courses designed to engage young people not in work or education, during March and April 2004.

At-Bristol developed five one day introductory taster courses in New Media Production and three more in Environmental Science.  There was also a subsequent five-day New media course which recruited interested participants from the one day taster courses.  This programme was part of the Education Unlimited initiative; a collaboration with Connexions, LSC and Business West.

We attended three of the New Media and one of the Environmental Science one day taster courses, and also observed three days of the five day new media course.  An observational analysis was undertaken, considering the delivery of the course, the conduct and responses of the students and the general flow and mood of the sessions.  Structured interviews with participants were conducted during the sessions.  Interviews were also conducted with course tutors on the day of each observation, and with At-Bristol staff involved in the programme delivery.

Data from the sessions was subsequently analysed with reference to a set of research questions framed in collaboration with At-Bristol.
