evaluation and research evaluation of copus development grant scheme

In 2000 we were asked to conduct an independent evaluation of the COPUS development grants scheme.

COPUS was set up as a collaboration between the Royal Society, the BA and the Royal Institution as a recommendation from the 1985 Bodmer Report. Amongst its activities, it ran some funding streams including the development grants scheme.

COPUS funding was unique in that it was available for anyone and was applicable across all areas of science. The development grants scheme earned a strong reputation for developing innovative new work in science communication.

We conducted a telephone survey of grant holders and also included a stakeholder consultation and review of other grant schemes in our report.
