evaluation and research think or swim

2006-2007 evaluation of the Bristol Natural History Consortium's (BNHC) DEFRA Climate Challenge Funded project 'Think or Swim'

Think or Swim paired young people aged 14-16 from six schools in the South West with six community-based filmmakers to work together to develop short films about climate change. The films were to be used as cultural drivers in the community and as tools for engaging otherwise hard to reach audiences, through peer to peer communication.

In order to measure the projects' success, we gathered data via observations, informal interviews and questionnaires throughout the process; from preparatory workshops, pre-production and filming stages, through to launch events.

We produced two reports to:

a) identify the impact of the project on engagement with and perceptions of climate change held by the project participants (both the young participants and the participating filmmakers) and

b) examine the impact on audiences at local screenings of the films.
