As well as facilitating and encouraging
dialogue between members of the public, through our dialogue projects
and public events, we are also called upon to provide facilitation for
external clients.
We specialise in high level stakeholder
meetings and bringing together individuals and organisations, in
the form of output focused facilitated discussions, leading to policies
and actions.
Recent examples of facilitation
include:
-
Coordinated facilitation (including teams of four facilitators and four rapporteurs) for a three day symposium run by the Natural Capital Initiative, which aimed to bring together multi-disciplinary stakeholders to discuss ecosystem services and produce directives for governmental policy pertaining to natural capital (such as rural and urban land use and use of the marine environment). The conference was organised into a number of breakout sessions which were then broken down into smaller groups. We were responsible for facilitating discussions, the development of ideas and the achievement of consensus on future directions for ecosystem services. In order to drive these discussions we developed a new methodology called ‘Thinking Pens’ which was derived from the work of Edward de Bono.
-
A
facilitated dialogue event for
the Department of Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS), in
support of: ‘A Vision of Science and Society’, a consultation on
developing a new science and society strategy for the UK.
-
Bringing
together the London Beacon Partners to plan collaborations at
University College London
-
A
facilitated discussion with external stakeholders, in evaluation of
the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
Partnerships for Public Engagement scheme.
-
Facilitation
of an initial meeting between the National Coordinating Centre for
Public Engagement (NCCPE) and all of the Beacons.
-
A
facilitated discussion with external stakeholders for the British
Council, in preparation for activities to be held during Darwin Year
2009.
-
Facilitation
of discussions about healthcare choices, held at events throughout
the UK, during the Open University's 'Listen to Me, I'm a Patient'.
