Meet the Gene Machine is a Wellcome Trust funded drama debate, in partnership with the University of the West of England, Bristol <more about the project> In 2006-2007, the meet the gene machine project was rolled out across the UK. To accompany the drama, we developed a Continuing Professional Development component for teachers and a suite of resources for running bioethical debates in the classroom. We produced a resource pack, available both on CD and in hard copy, which featured tips on organising group discussions, information about different curricula and activities to run in the classroom; complete with curriculum links, templates for handouts and preparation sheets for technicians. We also devised a training programme to guide teachers through using the resources and to give them the confidence to tackle bioethical issues with their students. <more about the training programme> Teachers were also provided with a powerpoint slide show featuring background information for teaching genetics and bioethics. Download the teachers' resource pack here.View the powerpoint slides here. |
