who we are Becky Williams

Becky is the Content Development Manager and Web Editor for Graphic Science Ltd, where she is responsible for project management and research across the consultancy’s extensive portfolio of projects. She has taken lead responsibility for external evaluations funded by EPSRC, DEFRA, STFC, At-Bristol/SLC, and STEMNET. She has also taken responsibility for the rigorous formative evaluation of internal projects funded by EPSRC and The Wellcome Trust.

Becky is particularly interested in resource development, such as those which enhance science curricula. She has been responsible for developing teacher packs and paper-based activities for teachers for 'Meet the Gene Machine' and 'Smarter'. She also developed a series of activities to accompany the British Council's international 'Darwin Now' exhibition.

Becky has a background in Media, with a degree in Multimedia Journalism from Bournemouth University; NCTJ qualifications in News Writing, Public Affairs and Media Law; and a portfolio of freelance feature writing.  She recently undertook an MA in New Media, on a part-time basis at the University of the West of England, Bristol which she passed with Merit. The course encapsulates the study of cultural theory, audience research and modes of communication when applied to new technology.

Before taking on her current role, Becky worked with Graphic Science, at the Science Communication Unit at UWE, for three years as publicity officer and website editor. She also worked within the Faculty of Applied Sciences Research Office where she was responsible for the promotion of research across the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It was her role to interview researchers within the Faculty and to write promotional articles, produce marketing materials and press releases highlighting pertinent applications of their research in wider society. She was also responsible for designing and running the Faculty's glossy magazine 'Research Matters', later taking on re-development projects of the  research web pages and subsequently the Faculty's entire web presence. She was also responsible for the compilation of the Faculty’s Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) submission. Working within the Research Office Becky became familiar with the structures of higher education, academic research funding mechanisms and the challenges of multi-disciplinary collaborations.

With a background in web development, Becky was also responsible for the design and subsequent maintenance of this website.
