Claire is the STEM Manager at Graphic Science, where she is responsible for our STEMNET contracts, managing the STEM Ambassadors programme and schools advisory service in Bristol, Bath and Somerset, as well as Gloucestershire. As part of her role, Claire works very closely with companies to support them in planning and executing their school outreach programmes. This is to ensure that their activities provide appropriate professional development opportunities for their graduates and apprentices while also providing the support that schools need. For example, Claire helped to develop the Ministry of Defence’s community project for their apprentices. This involves the development, in consultation with a teacher, and delivery of a day long workshop for KS4 pupils, illustrating real world engineering problems which the apprentices face. Claire is involved with many networks across the Bristol region, that support education-business links, relevant to STEM. She works with organisations such as the Local Enterprise Partnership, Connexions and Science City Bristol, as well as STEM education organisations like the Science Learning Centre and the local branches of various professional institutions, to ensure a coherent STEM offering to schools. She also sits on working groups for events and projects happening in Bristol such as Your Green Futures’, an event looking at skills in the green economy. Claire is also involved with many HE STEM funded projects in the South West, providing expert advice and support with working with schools and volunteers. For one of the projects looking at the employability skills of undergraduates who are student volunteers, Claire has developed and delivered training for the undergraduates looking at how to identify, evidence and improve their employability skills. This was in association with the University of Exeter, University of Bath and Devon EBP. Before taking on her current position Claire worked for Cheltenham Festivals Ltd where she helped to produce the first Cheltenham International Science Festival which took place in St Louis, Missouri in the USA. Before this time she worked as the Science Enterprise Communications Officer at The Oxford Trust where she was responsible for coordinating a variety of projects, including ‘Designs for Life’ - a project run in partnership with the Women’s Institute (WI). Claire is a trained facilitator, with experience of facilitating discussions on a wide variety of subjects to audiences as diverse as the Women's Institute and school students. She has a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Science, Culture and Communications. Contact Clairee: claire@graphicscience.co.uk t: +44 (0)1275 474 948 m: +44 (0)7795 270 205 |
