Graphic Science is a communications and education consultancy committed to taking science and engineering to a variety of new audiences through a diverse portfolio of innovative projects. Since 1997, we have earned international recognition for work that is imaginative, evidence based and well targeted. We also provide a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) advisory service and manage a large volunteers' programme of STEM Ambassadors through our regional STEMNET contracts. STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from research and industry who offer their time free of charge to support schools. We are the 2011-2015 contract holders for the Bristol, Bath and Somerset region and the Gloucestershire region. We registered at Companies House as a Limited Company in October 2006. What do we offer? We have a wealth of project management experience, working closely with partners to achieve successful results on time and within budget. Along with a unique range of in-house skills, from creative development, science writing, and online content generation to audience research, scoping, and evaluation, we have a range of associates who each bring their own expertise and experience to the table, from graphic design and filmmaking through to specialist social research practice. We have an established and highly visible presence in the science communication community with access to a large network of experts in public engagement. Our activities include… We develop a number of projects to raise awareness and stimulate dialogue about science and technology, with adults and family groups of all ages and social backgrounds. These projects have included drama and dialogue events, consultation and graphics-based campaigns. We specialise in generating new ideas and developing original content for distribution across multi-centre networks. We have a longstanding dedication to audience pre-research. We believe in getting to know our audiences, in order to frame our projects to target them directly. In addition we are known for our commitment to evaluation and sharing learning outcomes with the wider community. We are often asked to perform bespoke evaluations and scoping studies for external clients. We have formed standing panels with groups of KS4 and KS5 pupils in local schools, a unique resource which allows us to produce continuous data on the opinions, activities and learning experience of school pupils. We have a long history of developing events for schools and generating classroom materials that are appropriate for the national curriculum. We also have a good deal of experience in developing continuing professional development (CPD) programmes and other support materials for teachers. Through our position as STEMNET STEM Ambassador contract holders for Bristol, Bath and Somerset, and Gloucestershire, we are also responsible for managing science and engineering ambassadors and matching schools with businesses and STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) E&E (Enhancement and Enrichment) providers in the region. The aim is to support schools as they attempt to build upon their STEM E&E activities. We are active in providing specialist engagement and communications training for scientists, engineers and budding science communicators via dedicated workshops and specially devised courses. We are founding members of ‘the training group’ a partnership between science made simple and Graphic Science to deliver expert science communication training throughout the sector. Funders and clients We have received funding from, among others, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Institute of Physics (IoP), The Royal Society of Chemistry, The European Commission, The Office of Science and Technology, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) and the Wellcome Trust.
