who we are Rebecca Hurwitz

Becky is Projects Coordinator for Graphic Science where she is currently overseeing the Smarter UK project, a classroom debate about the ethics of using drugs for cognitive enhancement which will involve 9,000 students in five regions across the UK. For the project, she has to coordinate the project partners across the UK, as well as neuroscience researchers in five different regions.

Before joining Graphic Science, Becky worked as Public Engagement Officer at BBSRC where she was responsible for coordinating exhibitions and events as a platform for scientists to interact with the public and other stakeholder groups. Her work included developing and staffing an exhibition at BBC Gardner’s World and helping university departments competing in BBSRC’s Excellence with Impact awards to produce exhibits that encapsulated their department’s work for a special awards event.

Prior to moving into science communication, she worked as a software developer producing computer aided learning and other material for the pharmaceutical and life sciences.

Becky is also one of the founders and the current chair of Larkhall Festival. The festival is a community-run, three-day celebration involving local artists, musicians and community organisations. The festival is now in its fourth year and over its course, Becky has been involved in coordinating and designing the programme, commissioning the production of a short documentary, running a film night and learning to perform stand-up comedy amongst other things.

Becky has a BSc in Biochemistry and an MA in Animation.
