What is CyberFirst?

CyberFirst is a programme of opportunities to help young people explore their passion for tech by introducing them to the fast paced world of cyber security.

Schools and colleges can apply for a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award via the CyberFirst Programme. Successful applicants are recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) as leaders who are committed to providing a structured approach to excellence in cyber security education.

If you’re an educator from a Secondary School or College looking to become CyberFirst accredited then please contact Chris Hotchin (Bristol, Bath, South Glos, Somerset & Wiltshire) or Charlotte Smith (Gloucestershire, Dorset, Devon & Cornwall) to get started.

Industry Support and Volunteering with CyberFirst

Our core mission is to inspire and nurture talent by supporting young people to gain the skills, experience, and exposure they need to be the future first line of defence in our CyberFirst world. We are looking for volunteers and industry supporters to help us inspire and engage the next generation. Volunteers from cyber industries and the wider computing and information sector acting as role models and participating in school events can help young people to explore their passion for technology and raise their aspirations!

How to get involved

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to register as a STEM Ambassador. The STEM Ambassador programme is a national volunteering programme that works in partnership with CyberFirst, supporting volunteers and helping you access training and DBS Checks. Please download the guidance below for a full breakdown of how to sign-up.

Finding out More

We ask all volunteers to participate in one event, of their choosing, per year. This can be volunteering as an individual or a collaboration alongside colleagues. The CyberFirst team hold regular Lunch & Learn webinars for those who would like to learn more about the programme and what to expect from volunteering. Lunch & Learn sessions are open to everyone – the more the merrier!

Events for Volunteers

The CyberFirst scheme regularly co-ordinates Cyber Horizon activity days for schools – these events are always looking for volunteers from industry who could run a short workshop activity or give a careers talk. CyberFirst also coordinates the CyberFirst Girls Competition, for which volunteers are asked to give an assembly talk. Support and guidance is available.
