Signposting Sustainability
Signposting sustainability was a bus poster and SMS based campaign, designed to draw public attention and stimulate debate into the role of carbon flow in climate change.
We developed the poster in association with the Science Communication Unit and Air Quality Management research group at the University of the West of England. There was a long period of audience testing into reactions towards different poster designs and straplines before the final design was selected.
The campaign, which was funded by a Partnership for Public Awareness award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), could be seen on the sides of 75 buses in Bristol from November to January, 2003.
The campaign was linked to a public consultation on sustainable development conducted by Bristol City Council. Members of the public could text their ideas to the number on the poster which would then be displayed on a dedicated website.
