Our Green Skills

Our Green Skills is a programme of in-school support, events and training aiming to increase awareness of green skills and careers amongst young people, teachers, and the wider STEM community in the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) area.

Our Green Skills brings together people in education, particularly those with an interest in careers and in STEM, and people from academia and industry with skills and experience to share in the area of green skills and careers.

For Our Green Skills, we are defining “green skills and careers” as work, business activity and research that focuses on one or more of:

  • reducing carbon emissions, waste and/or pollution;
  • enhancing energy and resource efficiency;
  • preventing the loss of biodiversity and harm to ecosystems.

Our Green Skills aims to increase participation in activities linked to the regional skills needs identified in the Green Skills Market Analysis published by WECA in June 2021, and based around the nationwide Climate Ambassador programme launched by STEM Learning and the University of Reading in April 2022.

We invite any individual or organisation with interests aligned to the Our Green Skills initiative to join us and help us bring green skills and careers to life for young people. We would love to talk further with you about what you feel you could contribute to Our Green Skills, please get in touch to arrange a time to have a more in-depth chat with the team.
